Baseball puts three on All-GSCteam

UCA pitcher Zach Barnett was named to the All-Gulf South Conference baseball first team, while Todd Gossage and Jonathan Ashworth were named second-team.

Barnett, a junior starting pitcher from Sheridan, finished the season with a 7-4 record and had a an earned run average of 2.80. He led the team with 56 strikeouts and held opposing batters to a .207 average.

Ashworth, a sophomore shortstop from Arkansas Baptist, led the team with 13 doubles while hitting .336. He started 47 of 48 games and had 50 hits.

Gossage, a junior third baseman from Colorado Springs, hit .317 and was second on the team with five home runs and also had 10 doubles. He led the Bears with a .497 slugging percentage.

Delta State's Craig Newton was named the GSC West Division Player of the Year and UA-Monticello's Nick Tillsley was the West Freshman of the Year. West Alabama Coach Gery Rundles was the GSC Coach of the Year.
