Falcons tame Tigers, move on to semis
TUPELO, Miss. — The Montevallo Falcons showed Ouachita Baptist and the rest of the crowd why they are the defending Gulf South Conference Tournament champs Thursday night.

The Falcons pulled ahead early and never looked back, eventually getting the 60-47 win over OBU.

Montevallo shot just 42.4 percent from the field for the first half, but gave OBU fits, holding them to just 27.6 percent shooting. The Falcons strolled into the locker room with a 35-21 lead at the half.

In the second half, OBU came out with a little more fight and actually won the half 26-25. But the Tigers were just never able to chip away at the Montevallo lead.

OBU continued their shooting woes in the second half, improving to 35.5 percent from the field, but 14.3 percent from behind the arc.

Montevallo’s shooting fell through the floor in the second half. They shot 6-for-22 in the second half. But hit 12-of-19 free throws.

James Hall led the Falcons with 22 points and 7 rebounds. Marcus Kennedy scored 18 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. D.J. Towns had 11 points. Caleb Kennedy added 12.

Kevin White was the only player in double figures for Tigers with 11.

The Falcons now go on to face UCA on Friday at 7:30 in the semifinals.
