Ouachita silences Lions’ roar
TUPELO, Miss. — North Alabama did everything they could to roar back, but Ouachita Baptist’s roar was just too much in the end as the Tigers knocked off the Lions 73-58.

It was the third time the Tigers had knocked off North Alabama this season.

“It’s hard to beat a team three times,” OBU coach Charlie Schaef said. “One thing we knew coming into tonight is that our transition defense had to be tough.”

The transition defense was tough in the first half — the Tigers allowed just two points in transition. OBU held UNA to just 33.9 percent shooting for the game.

The Lions cut the OBU lead to seven mid-way through the half but OBU was able to get an added offensive spurt and pull away once and for all.

“We just couldn’t get the big play or that big rebound,” UNA coach Bobby Champagne said of not being able to get over the edge. “But this team’s got a tenacity to them, they never quit.”

The Tigers were led offensively by Kevin White who had 20 points and 10 rebounds. David Mercer added 18 and 6.

UNA was led by Pete Lowe who had 12 points.

OBU now moves on to play the No. 1 seed from the East, Montevallo on Friday at 5:30 p.m.

“We’ve really picked up the steam late in the season,” Schaef said. “Hopefully we can keep on rolling.”
