Lady Reddies dominate West Georgia
TUPELO, Miss. — Henderson State was able to fend of a fiesty West Georgia club, 75-62, in second day GSC Tournament action.

“We were very focused, and we came to play,” HSU coach Jeff Caldwell said. “I think we’re very hungry and that’s how you’ve got to be during postseason play. You’ve got to be hungry.”

The Lady Reddies were able to fend off a late surge from West Georgia, who just lost the second half by 1 point, 31-30.

Tai Ellis led the Lady Braves with 25 points. Unfortunatley for SUWG she was the only option on offense.

“Tai Ellis is a very good player, by the way,” Caldwell said. “She’s  one of the best we’ve seen this year.”

The Lady Reddies were led by Aesha Carter’s 21 points and 13 rebounds.

“This game was tough,” she said. “But I’m not perfect, I’m gonna play hard and we’re gonna play hard no matter who’s next.”

Saprina Reed’s 13 points put her over 1,000 points for her career at Henderson State. She scored the 1,000th point on a steal and layin. Something her coach said was a perfect way for her to get it.

“She’s one of the best in the business at stealing the ball and scoring in transition,” Caldwell said. “So, for her to get her 1,000th point that way was kind of a trademark way to do it.”

Maggie Sauls added 12 points for HSU and Satoya Spates had 10.

Henderson will play the of Today’s 5: 30 contest between Arkansas-Monticello and Valdosta State.
